Have you ever had that restless feeling deep inside of you… like there is more that you are supposed to be doing?  Something keeps calling to you.  Like a finger periodically tapping you on the shoulder as if to say, “Excuse me.  Aren’t you forgetting something? Aren’t you supposed to be doing something more?”

I have this feeling a lot.  No matter how much time has passed, I know that eventually that finger will tap me on the shoulder.  It is my inner voice holding me on course.  Reminding me that no matter how busy life gets, it is there keeping safe watch over my deepest dreams and longings.

Don’t get me wrong.  I love my life as it is right now.  I have an amazing husband and two extraordinary little boys.  I am surrounded by loving family and friends and am blessed to have a job that I enjoy going to everyday.  Yet, I know that there is more that I want to do….that I am destined to do.

I will share with you the object of my desire.  I want to write a book.  Correction….I AM writing a book.  I started it about 10 years ago and have managed to complete one chapter.  Granted, during the past 10 years, there was a period of about 5 or 6 years that I didn’t do a thing with the book.  More recently, I took out the old outline and completely re-did it….totally changed the time period and scope of the story.  I could feel the excitement coursing through me as I re-wrote and re-envisioned the storyline.

The need to write this is deep.  It is something I simply feel I must do.  My ultimate goal isn’t even to get it published…I just want to write it and enjoy the process.  I know that I will accomplish this goal, because I refuse to allow myself to regret it for the rest of my life.  There is no fear of failure because I am not looking for outside validation or approval.  Simply completing it to the best of my ability will be my reward.

Do you have something tapping you on your shoulder?  This nagging feeling or voice within you reminding you of a dream you may have forgotten you even had?  Thank your inner voice for providing safe keeping of your desire….and now go out and see that dream fulfilled!

"You are accountable for your actions, your decisions, your life; no one else is, but you." Catherine Pulsifer

Has this ever happened to you?  You decide to make a change in your life.  Perhaps you want to lose weight.  You join the local gym, or buy a treadmill or new workout DVD, get some new workout clothes and shoes, look-up everything you can on healthy eating and clean out your pantry. Nothing is stopping you this time.  You congratulate yourself on being disciplined and diligent.  This momentum lasts until something comes up and you miss one workout. The next thing you know, one missed workout has turned into two….then more days in a row….

Whatever your personal goals are, finding ways to stay motivated and on track are essential.  Here are some things that you can do to keep moving towards your desired destination:

              • Block off 15 minutes a day in your calendar for deep breathing or meditation
              • Post affirmations or reminders throughout the house
              • Cut out pictures of your dream or heart’s desire
              • Choose a favorite piece of music when doing dreaded tasks
              • Listen to a meditation tape
              • Light a candle or burn incense.
              • Put a reminder object in your pocket.
              • Change the lighting or paint color in a room
              • Establish creative consequences or rewards
              • Find an exercise partner or personal trainer
              • Call your own voice mail every day when a certain task is done
              • Wear a rubber band on your wrist when you want to remember something
              • Give yourself deadlines and schedule a time to share your progress with someone (family, friend, co-worker)

              Tips for Lasting Change 01/14/2011

Are you stuck in a rut?  Are you already feeling like the enthusiasm you had when you made that New Year’s Resolution is a distant memory?  Relax.  We have all been there.  Here are some tips to help you get re-focused and re-energized:
              • Choose an area to focus on.  While you may have many things you want to work on, start with identifying one main area.  Trying to change too many things at once can lead to feeling overwhelmed and set yourself up for failure.
              • Think about strengths you have and times in your life that you have been successful at this or another change. What worked?  What can you draw from those experiences?
              • Identify your specific goal. Make it a SMART goal:
                • Specific
                • Measurable
                • Attainable
                • Realistic
                • Timely
              • Write down your goal and post it someplace where you will see it everyday.
              • Visualize yourself having accomplished the goal. How do you feel?  Who is celebrating with you?
              • Identify the challenges or what might get in the way. This gives you the opportunity to prepare for what might come up and have a plan for dealing with it.
              • Write down your action steps.  What specific things do you need to do to get you from where you are to where you want to be? Make them small, manageable steps. Think about what you can do today or this week to move you towards your goal.
              • Focus on the process and not just the results.  Don’t get caught up in how long it is taking to reach your goal.  Be in the present moment and appreciate all you are doing each day.
              • Be accountable.  Tell others about your goal and have a buddy check-in with you on your progress.
              • Join a support group of others working on similar goals to share ideas, challenges and victories.
              • Use post-it notes for reminders of your goal, positive self-talk statements, or words of wisdom and inspiration.  Read them aloud daily!
              • There is no such thing as failure – don’t beat yourself up.  Learn from each experience and use them as a chance to reevaluate your goal. Is it realistic or does it need to be modified?
              • Celebrate your successes and milestones!

              "I am happy and content because I think I am." - Alain-Rene Lesage 07/29/2010

              Could truer words be spoken?

Too often we look outside ourselves for happiness, saying that we'll only be happy if we make more money, lose more weight, have a bigger house, .... you get the idea.  I am just as guilty of falling into this trap as anyone else.  I even struggle with it now as I try to lose the baby weight following the recent birth of my second son.  I find myself feeling restless and just wanting the time to pass by quickly to get to what will "really make me happy."  However, I really do have the power to choose to be happy right now, even while continuing to work towards goals.

Two concepts are coming to mind right now:  I really am what I think (positive thinking), and living in the present moment.  Those often go hand-in-hand for me.  I admit that there are times that I am neither living in the present moment, nor feeling content with the way things are.  For example, I can find myself dreaming about what it will be like to take the boys to Disney World when they get older.  I have easily given in to the temptation to spend too much time dreaming about the future, wanting it to hurry up and get here, that I get restless and frustrated with the present.  To the point that I overlook how wonderful the time is right now.

Every moment, every day is precious.  While it is fun to plan ahead, I don't want to wish this time away by only looking forward.  It is important to remember all of life's blessings that are currently around us.  To slow down and find happiness and contentment in the shear joy of watching your 3-month-old smile at you when they see you.  To see your two-years-old's pride in himself after learning a new skill and doing it all on his own.

Remember, you are what you think.  You have the power to start your day out on a positive note, to feel good about where things are at in your life right now.  Dream, set goals, go after the life you have always wanted, but..... don't forget to appreciate all of the special, present moments along the way.  You don't want to get to your destination and realize that you missed the whole trip.  Life is a journey and every moment is precious.

               - Kim

The words we speak and think hold great sway over the kind of life that we create for ourselves. Many people live their lives plagued by negative thoughts and never even realize this. They tell themselves and others that they are doomed to fail, not good enough, or not worthy of love, yet they are amazed when their reality starts reflecting these words. Just as the subconscious mind accepts as truth the critical statements we tell ourselves, it is also equipped to instantly accept the truth of our affirmations.

Affirmations are statements chosen and spoken consciously. Once they enter our realm of consciousness, they also enter our subconscious mind where they have the power to change our lives. The affirmations you create should be specific, not too long, worded positively, formed in complete sentences, and spoken in the present tense as if what you are affirming is already true. It is a good idea to repeat your affirmations daily. You may want to tell yourself that you deserve to be happy or that you are in control of your destiny. Or, you may want to focus on a particular goal, such as attracting new friends. Rather than telling yourself you want to be well-liked, say, "I am well-liked." Your subconscious mind will pick up on these positive messages, and you will begin to live your life as if what you are affirming already has happened. Soon, your reality will begin to reflect your affirmations. If you find that you are overloading yourself with negative thinking, try repeating your affirmations several times a day. Write your affirmations down and say them aloud or in your mind. Allow your conviction to grow stronger each time you say your affirmations, and your negativity will be overridden by your motivation and positive thoughts.

Affirmations are a powerful tool for creating our desired reality. We consciously and subconsciously invite opportunity into our lives when we say affirmations. Trust in the power of your affirmations, and you will very quickly create what you have already stated to be true.

              The Road 02/22/2010
              0 Comments

I see two roads in front of me.

I know not where they end, but

Both will lead me on a journey.

Are their destinations the same?  I do not know.

One road is flat and straight.

Though it looks easy, there is no life in it.

              No bright spots, no excitement.

But, no dark or dangerous corners.  It looks safe.

The other road is twisting and turning.

With peaks and valleys, bumps and smooth patches.

              There are bright inviting places,

And dark, shadowed areas filled with uncertainty.

Which road I take depends on my perspective.

One is safe, but also plain and predictable.

One is uncertain, but filled with risks,

              Challenges, possibilities, and wonderful adventures.

I know not where either journey will take me,

But I know what I will take from the journey.

I choose the uncertain path with all its mysteries.

Filled with highs and lows, beauty and chaos.

It presents me with the opportunity to

Know myself, and grow in strength and confidence.

To learn, to explore, to experience.

              To be fully alive.

              Now…you have a choice.

              Which road do you choose?
